Biography : by Sylvie Gourdin
Born on June 10 of 1950 in Dives sur Mer, early about 8 years old, he discovers drawing. Spotted by his school, he makes on exhibition with the local painters, aged 13, what confirmes him in his idea to escape in painting universe.
But fascinated all time by painting and drawing, he enlarges his art as the years go. Self-taught man, he finds a necessary attitude in taking evening classes at Art School in Caen. He become the cofounder of "Peintres d'Hérouville Saint Clair". In the same time, he enters " Independants de Basse-Normandie ".
In 1983, he takes part in a great number of collective and individual exhibitions, as a member and as an exhibitor. He obtains 22 prizes for his art in France as well as in Europe.
At th XXXIX th Painting International Great Prize in Deauville, in 1988, the foreman of the jury, Mrs Solange Gontag, presented him the diplomia nicknaming him D'Artagnan, as with his half-long hair, his curled up moustache, his short goatee and his plumed cap, he made her think of the famous figure of Alexandre Dumas.
Inspired a time by the italian classical school, he branches off very soon into surrealism and symbolism inspired by Paul Delvaux, Dali, René Magritte, Jérôme Bosch....
The beginning of his works shows some of pessimism due to an anguished past, but anyway with a questionning : Does happiness exist ?, It seems to be so. As, if you look at his symbolic and surrealist paintings, you will be carried along into a richly coloured and enlighted world.
Learning behind daily attacks, the painter carries us away with his imaginary tinged with are mixed ratonal and irrational, beauty and search of happiness.
The D'Artagnan surrealiste painter wishes you a pleasant visit in his site.
